Satscape for Java Status:

Satscape for Java is currently in the ALPHA TEST stage of development. I don't require any bug reports yet, they will be welcome when it goes into BETA TEST stage.

Free or Donationware?

The program is free, you can download and use the fully functional program forever, but as the author, Scott Hather has spent years developing it, try it out for a few months or years, and if you like it, and it runs well on your PC, and you find it useful, then please compensate the author by buying some merchandise or making a donation (donation links below).

No donation is TOO SMALL, if you want to donate one US Dollar, thats fine, thank you very much. If you don't like Satscape, or it doesn't work, then please delete it, and try another program.

2 UK Pounds = $US 3.94

6 UK Pounds = $US 11.90

Any Billionaires out there want to donate a  million pounds? CHEERS!

...I could spend much more time developing Satscape if I didn't have to work for a living :-)

Satscape for Java
(Linux, Sun Solaris, FreeBSD, Mac OS and Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista)

BETA-TEST VERSION - This version is not finished yet, but has a lot of the main parts now done and working, so give it a try, see what you think.

First of all, you will need to check to see if you have Java 1.6 or higher on your computer, to do this, click the orange button, it will check your operating system and give you the choice of installing or upgrading your Java installation. Use this button to install Java for Windows, Linux or any other operating system that uses Java.

Step 1 of 2 check Check you have the latest Java
Step 2 of 2 check Download/Install Satscape

You should now have Satscape for Java Installed, and one other great feature is that whenever I upload a new version, you'll automatically get updated the next time you run Satscape.

MAC OS USERS: At the time of writing Apple are lagging behind the rest of the world and only have Java 1.5 (or java 5 in Apple-Speak). You can however, install a preview of Java 6 for Mac OSX, you can find it at http://developer.apple.com/java/ Once Java 6 preview is installed, you should then be able to install Satscape for Java

'Classic' Satscape (Windows Only)

This version is the 'classic' version and is no longer under development, but you are very welcome to carry on using it, but I would recommend you use the Java version above instead, unless you REALLY need Rotor and Radio control, as the Java version may not have this feature...for a while!

Download Satscape

Approximately 6 MegaBytes - Requires Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP or Vista(may have some compatibility problems) - For the 3D view to work correctly, you need a DirectX 8 compatabile graphics card (or better) and DirectX 8 installed. Also, a spanish version is also available.
Includes a required patch to fix a keplerian element glitch (this is not requied with the java version)

Other Downloads

First up theres the manual for 'classic' Satscape, a manual for the Java version will be along soon.

Download Manual (English PDF)

Click the button to download the PDF of the manual in English, or you can download the DOC format. Its also available in Dutch PDF or DOC, and Spanish PDF or DOC.

Download Reset program

This is a little program that removes all Satscape settings from the windows Registry, and has been very useful for fixing glitches!

If you want computerised speech in 'Classic' Satscape to announce when satellites are in range and as an aid for the partially-sighted or just to add a little flare to Satscape, you'll need the "Speech Engine" and one ore more of these voices:
IBM Voices, L&H British English Voices. You can use any voice pack that is compatabile with the Microsoft SAPI

Also, the 2D view has a customised background map, so you can stick with the default, or download a selection of other alternative maps
